Announcing the “Buri” BentoBox v1.1.3

We are pleased to announce an updated version of the BentoBox SDK for Kiji. This update includes support for CDH 4.3 as well as support for profiling in KijiSchema and KijiMR.

Buri includes the following software:

  • KijiSchema 1.1.2 *UPDATED*
  • KijiSchema shell 1.1.0
  • KijiMR 1.0.2 *UPDATED*
  • KijiMR Library 1.0.0
  • Kiji Hive adapter 0.4.1
  • KijiREST 0.3.0
  • KijiScoring 0.3.0
  • KijiExpress 0.6.0

This BentoBox is powered by Hadoop and HBase via CDH 4.3. It is built around the latest version of KijiSchema and is also compatible with CDH 4.1 and CDH 4.2.

Below is an overview of updates made. For full details on changes made, see the RELEASE_NOTES.txt files included with BentoBox.

Profiling

The latest versions of KijiSchema and KijiMR support profiling of KijiMetaTable and KijiSchemaTable accesses and the time taken for Avro SerDe. This gives the user insight into the typical operations performed above the HBase layer.

Enable profiling in your BentoBox with:

$KIJI_HOME/bin/profiling/enable-profiling.sh

Disable profiling with:

$KIJI_HOME/bin/profiling/disable-profiling.sh

The $KIJI_HOME/bin/profiling/kijistats.py script can be used to gather aggregate statistics per job or per function.

KijiSchema 1.1.2

Users are recommended to use this version instead of 1.1.1. Users should not see any incompatible changes. This release contains several bugfixes and performance improvements not in 1.1.1 (SCHEMA-258, SCHEMA-465, SCHEMA-456), including SCHEMA-467: a fix for a bug that caused the checkin notification thread to sometimes hang.

It also includes new Kiji row filters, support for CDH 4.3, and support for profiling.

KijiMR 1.0.2

Users are recommended to use this version instead of 1.0.1. Users should not see any incompatible changes. This release includes support for CDH 4.3, as well as support for profiling.

Bento-cluster 1.1.2

Upgraded to CDH 4.3.
